چکیده

Herbicides not only kill the weeds but also affect cell metabolism of economic crops, specifically their photosynthetic machinery [1]. They interfere with the development and structure of chloroplasts, thereby influencing light reactions of photosynthesis [2]. We report in this communication on the inter action of pyrazon, triazole and metribuzin with pea chloroplasts during greening in terms of morpholog ical changes and photochemical activities.

Inhibition of photosynthetic electron transport by diphenyl ether herbicides.

The effects of the diphenyl ether herbicides HOE 29152 (methyl-2[4-(4-trifluoromethoxy) phenoxy] propanoate) and nitrofluorfen (2-chloro-1-[4-nitrophenoxy]-4-[trifluoromethyl]benzene) on photosynthetic electron transport have been examined with pea seedling and spinach chloroplasts. Linear electron transport (water to ferricyanide or methylviologen) is inhibited in treated chloroplasts, but nei...

Fatty-Acid Biosynthesis and Acetyl-CoA Carboxylase as a Target of Diclofop, Fenoxaprop and other Aryloxy-phenoxy-propionic Acid Herbicides

The effect of the herbicides and aryloxy-phenoxy-propionic acid derivatives diclofop, fenoxaprop, fluazifop and haloxyfop and their ethyl, methyl or butyl esters on the de novo fatty-acid biosynthesis of isolated chloroplasts was investigated with intact chloroplasts isolated from sensitive grasses (Poaceae) and tolerant dicotyledonous plants (Pisum, Spinacia). The 4 herbicides (free-acid form)...

Photodynamic Damage to Isolated Chloroplasts: A Possible Model for in vivo Effects of Photosynthetic Inhibitor Herbicides

Chloroplast Membranes, Lipid Peroxidation, Singlet Oxygen, H erbicide Dam age, Chloroplast Pigments The breakdown of chlorophylls, carotenoids, and linolenic acid together with the formation o f malondialdehyde and ethane was followed in isolated pea chloroplast membranes. Breakdown was enhanced by light, oxygen, D 20 and rose bengal, but retarded by crocetin. The results are discussed in relat...

Interaction of Photosystem II Herbicides with Bicarbonate and Formate in Their Effects on Photosynthetic Electron Flow

The reactivation of the Hill reaction in C 0 2-depleted broken chloroplasts by various concen trations of bicarbonate was measured in the absence and in the presence o f photosystem II herbicides. It appears that these herbicides decrease the apparent affinity o f the thylakoid membrane for bicarbonate. Different characteristics o f bicarbonate binding were observed in chloroplasts o f triazin...

Chilling-Enhanced Photooxidation : The Peroxidative Destruction of Lipids during Chilling Injury to Photosynthesis and Ultrastructure.

Chilling-induced photooxidation was studied in detached leaves of chilling-sensitive (CS) cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) and chilling resistant (CR) pea (Pisum sativum L.). The rates of photosynthesis and respiration, measured as O(2) exchange, were found to be comparable in the two species over a temperature range of 5 to 35 degrees C. Chilling at 5 degrees C for 12 hours in high light (1000 mi...
